    Overview:
This program dramatically shows how words that are unclear, misleading, or otherwise provocative can be disastrous when interpreted by outsiders or in court. Anything written or recorded can end up as evidence—appointment books, contracts, diaries, drafts, ledgers, memos, meeting minutes, tape recordings, telephone logs, travel vouchers, and dozens of other items.

The dramatized story begins during the discovery phase of an antitrust case, just as the organization is handed a long list of documents and told to find them and turn them over. Out of the files come carelessly worded letters, memos, presentations, and reports peppered with boasts, brags, and gags. A phrase here and a line there, pieced together by the opposition, may suggest deliberate wrongdoing. The climactic "document" uncovered is the videotape footage of a sales convention featuring sales manager, Jim Cronin, dressed in a cave-man costume and impersonating the competitor-slashing “Cronin the Barbarian” as part of an in-house Sales Department comedy skit. In it, he forcefully urges his sales force to “hack up” competitors like slices of a watermelon! It's no joke when this video "document" is eventually taken as very graphic evidence of corporate intent to violate competition laws. Other examples drawn from real-life cases include hard to defend language in sales plans, annual report drafts, advertising, pricing and marketing memoranda, and more.
