Overview: There are hush-hush meetings in foreign cafes messages with coded names exorbitant fees to a middleman who happens to be married to a member of parliament of a foreign country. All are traced to a U.S. company, maneuvering to sell a large project to that country, and the company is prosecuted under the F.C.P.A. One executive involved in the deal becomes a fugitive from US justice. But foreign justice nabs him, and US prosecutors reach around the world to bring him back for trial and send him to jail. The company is hit with a multi-million dollar fine. Other episodes in the video feature agents with mysterious connections at foreign government palaces and sales representatives who demand huge expense accounts to take care of friends in high places. Commentary by an F.C.P.A. legal specialist and by a US Attorney deliver a strong message that payoffs to foreign officials are bad business and that the final payoff may be prosecution.
This updated version outlines even stiffer regulations and penalties with the passage of the International Anti-bribery and Fair Competition Act of 1998.
